Will Russia Kill the OSCE?

Moscow threatens to dismantle the OSCE as it blocks decisions on the organisation’s annual budget and its 2024 chairmanship. Russia is using its leverage in the OSCE as a political tool to shut down key institutions that it has accused of being biased towards a Western narrative, primarily the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. This comes in the same year as it voted against extending the OSCE’s special monitoring mission in Ukraine.
